According to the public relations office of Iranian Fisheries Science Research Institute, the first meeting of the working group of aquatic genetic resources was held with the presence of most members of the working group. In this meeting, Dr. Vali Nasab, Director General of the Office of Scientific Relations and International Cooperation of Research, Education and Extension of Agriculture Organization and the Reference for Aquatic Genetic Resources, presented a report on the progress of past FAO meetings.
He said that 92 countries that are members of FAO Intergovernmental Technical Working Group are obliged to report to the organization on their country's genetic resources and stocks, and Iran is also a member of this working group.
He added: "This working group has several sub-categories, e.g. aquaculture, livestock and forests."
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Aghaei, Head of the National Center for Management of Agricultural Genetic Resources and Natural Resources, Dr. Abdoli, Dr. Nafari, Dr. Fazli, Dr. Ghavampour, Dr. Vahabnezhad, Dr. Golshan, Dr. Najjar Lashgari and Dr. Hassanzadeh Saber from Iranian Fisheries Science Research Institute attended the meeting and expressed their views on how to report to FAO.
In the end, it was decided to prepare a work plan for the working group of genetic resources of aquatic animals reports.
