The scientific seminar with the title of "Principles of selective breeding in aquatic species" was presented by Dr. Ayeh Sadat Sadr, the academic member of the South of Iran Aquaculture Research Center – Ahvaz. The seminar was held at the session hall of the South of Iran Aquaculture Research Center in the presence of the head, the deputy directors, and the heads of the specialized departments as well as the experts of the research institute. She first pointed out to the increase in performance through the implementation of selective breeding programs and the use of genetic potential. Dr. Ayeh Sadat Sadr explained the role of advances in quantitative genetics, computer technology, and molecular methods in the use of comprehensive methods and accurate prediction of the value of genetic inheritance in organisms. Finally, the function of genomic selection in increasing profitability in selective breeding programs by reducing costs and increasing genetic progression by reducing generation gaps and increasing selection accuracy were highlighted. At the end of the seminar, Dr. Sadr answered the questions raised regarding the impact of various factors on the incidence of traits and the achievements of selective breeding of different species in the world.
