The joint meeting was held at the session hall of the South of Iran Aquaculture Research Center in the presence of the head of the research institute, Dr. Hooshmand, the head of the aquaculture department, Mr. Mortazavi Zadeh and experts from the aquaculture department; Mr. Amiri, Dr. Sadr and Dr. Nazem Roaya, as well as the head of the Dashte Azadegan native fish breeding center, Mr. Savari and the expert of the division for rebuilding aquatic resources of the Department of Fisheries, Mr. Makvandi in order to review the implementation process of the live gene bank of Barbus Xanthopterus project. During the meeting, the issuance of identity cards to the Barbus Xanthopterus broodstock, number, age, breeding season, infrastructure facilities required by the breeding center and the time of tagging broodfish were discussed. In the end, the head of the breeding center emphasized the visit to the Dashte Azadegan native fish breeding center by the experts of the South of Iran Aquaculture Research Center and spoke about the importance of implementing such projects for other valuable native species such as Mesopotamichthys sharpeyi and Barbus grypus. It is worth mentioning that one of the strategic plans of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad is to conserve the native aquatic resources and prepare the live gene bank for endangered or commercially valuable species. Issuance of identity cards for broodfish at the breeding centers through genetic testing is one of the important measures to protect the living gene bank.
