The global status of aquatic genetic resources presented at the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) at the 2019 meeting. Accordingly, a draft of the Global Plan of Action on Aquatic Genetic Resources for the 2021 Summit should be prepared. For this purpose, the specialized meeting was held at the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute in the presence of Dr. Vali Nasab, the National Authority for Aquatic Genetic Resources, to coordinate in order to prepare a draft of the Global Plan of Action on Aquatic Genetic Resources. He introduced the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and outlined the plans ahead. Then, Dr. Bahmani, the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, pointed out the importance of forming a specialized working group consisting of experts from the institute, the executive bodies, the universities and the private sector. He emphasized on increasing interaction with the National Center for Managing Agricultural Genetic Resources and Natural Resources. Finally, after discussion and exchange of views with colleagues, it was decided to prepare the outlines of the draft of the Global Plan of Action on Aquatic Genetic Resources and to introduce a working group of experts based on the draft chapters and at the suggestion of the departments of ecology, biology and fisheries stock assessment, biotechnology and aquaculture.
