In an interview with Tasnim reporter in Bushehr, Dr. Aghil Dashtian Nasab stated that the second research patrol of the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran to set a time to open the shrimp season has begun. He mentioned: In order to set a time to open the shrimp season, the first research patrol in the waters of the Persian Gulf began on July 8 and was held for 4 days, and today the second research patrol has begun. He said that the second research patrol to check the status of shrimp stocks will be carried out for 4 days. The head of the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran stated: After conducting three research patrols, their results will be reviewed by the Fisheries Management Committee and the time to open the shrimp season in the Persian Gulf in the waters of Bushehr province will be determined. He stated: The best conditions for shrimp fishery are when 70 % of the shrimp population reaches the size of 12 cm. Dr. Dashtian Nasab added: In these research patrols, the status of shrimp resources are investigated at 30 stations in the Persian Gulf at depths between 10 and 30 meters. He stated that the fishing gear used to catch shrimp is the trawl net and continued: Trawling technique has been introduced as the most destructive fishing method in the destruction of aquatic habitats in the Persian Gulf. Therefore, trawling is allowed only for a short period of time, since shrimp are benthic invertebrates and can be caught this way. He announced the production of a shrimp disease detection kit in the Bushehr province and stated: The white spot syndrome virus PCR kit was designed and produced by the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran which will be unveiled during the Research Week in December this year. The head of the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran mentioned the increase of shrimp broodstock at the Persian Gulf Research Station in Bushehr province and noted: Last year, more than 7,500 male - female pairs of shrimp broodstock were produced at the Persian Gulf Research Station in Bushehr province, which is a significant increase compared to 2018, when 4,000 male - female pairs of shrimp broodstock were produced. Dr. Dashtian Nasab added: This year, according to the plan, with the increase of the area under shrimp cultivation, the production of 10,000 male - female pairs of vannamei shrimp broodstock is on the agenda. Referring to the new round of vannamei shrimp broodstock production, he said: A new round of shrimp broodstock production has started with the stocking of 76,000 shrimp juveniles in the nursery ponds at the Persian Gulf Research Station. These shrimp juveniles were supplied from four breeding centers to increase population diversity. The head of the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran said that these shrimps are stocked in 5 greenhouse ponds until they become shrimp broodstock. He noted: Shrimp breeding is carried out in 5 provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan, Golestan, Khuzestan and Bushehr. This year, farmers are facing a severe shortage of shrimp juveniles. Dr. Dashtian Nasab pointed out that the breeding centers in Bushehr province have produced more than one billion and 100 million shrimp juveniles so far. He explained: These shrimp juveniles have been delivered to the farmers of Bushehr province for stocking, while the farmers of Bushehr province need 2 billion shrimp juveniles. He attributed the shortage of shrimp juveniles to the shortage of specific pathogen free shrimp broodstock. He added: Another cause of shortage of shrimp juveniles is the technical and health problems in the breeding centers. Another factor is the dependence on experts and specialized workers from foreign countries. The head of the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran emphasized: To solve this problem, it is necessary to train domestic experts and cut dependence on foreign labor.
