The meeting was held for the joint tripartite cooperation of the Department of Fisheries of the province, the investors and aquaculture practitioners as well as the Inland Waters Aquatic Stocks Research Center - Gorgan. Mr. Momen, the head of the cage and sturgeon office of the Golestan Department of Fisheries, explained about the existing cages, the plan to install new cages and the stocking and production forecast for this year and next year. Mr. Seghli, the deputy director for aquaculture, explained the needs of the private sector and future plans for the development of this industry in the province. Dr. Aghaei Moghadam, the head of the Inland Waters Aquatic Stocks Research Center – Gorgan, said: Considering that Dr. Bahmani, the head of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, stated that fish farming in cages has been one of the priority projects of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad and he has emphasized the use of indigenous species for fish farming in cages and given the fact that in this regard the institute has conducted extensive studies on the fish biotechnology of indigenous species suitable for this important task, the Inland Waters Aquatic Stocks Research Center - Gorgan will make every effort to cooperate with the private sector and the executive bodies. In this regard, the introduction of indigenous species suitable for aquaculture, providing information on economic justification, feeding, density and proposed weight are among the items that can help in the development of this industry on the east coast. Mr. Pour Soufi, the secretary of the working group of the research center, also spoke about the capabilities of the Inland Waters Aquatic Stocks Research Center in providing advice and conducting studies on the culture of indigenous fish species. It was decided that after holding a specialized meeting of the experts from the Inland Waters Aquatic Stocks Research Center and the Golestan Department of Fisheries, a project in this regard should be developed.
