The head of the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran announced the start of a new round of production of whiteleg shrimp broodstock at the Persian Gulf research station located in Bushehr province, which belongs to the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran. Dr. Aghil Dashtian Nasab said in this regard: In order to sustainable development and reduce investment risk in the fisheries industry, selective breeding and genetic modification of farmed shrimp species is still one of the research priorities of the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran this year. He added: Last year, more than 7,500 male - female pairs of shrimp broodstock were produced and delivered to the shrimp farming industry. This year, we plan to produce 10,000 male - female pairs of shrimp broodstock by increasing the area under culture and adding new equipment. The head of the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran said: The new round of production of whiteleg shrimp broodstock with stocking of 46,000 postlarvae in nursery tanks at the Persian Gulf research station of the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran started on June 28, 2020. These postlarvae were obtained separately from three breeding centers and were stocked in three days. Dr. Dashtian Nasab said: Postlarvae are kept in special indoor nursery tanks in the hall to spend their one - month nursery period and then selective breeding will be performed. He stated: These shrimp are stocked in four greenhouse ponds until they become desirable shrimp broodstock. It is worth mentioning; Bushehr province ranks first in the production of farmed shrimp in the country.
