On the occasion of Jihad - Agriculture Week, Dr. Dashtian Nasab in an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in Bushehr province announced the programs of the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran in the year of “A Jump in Production” with the aim of conserving shrimp natural resources and producing more farmed shrimp. He announced the most important research programs including selective breeding of shrimp, disease prevention in shrimp farms, production of shrimp disease test kits and assistance in increasing shrimp production through the production of live foods free from diseases. Currently, the bottom trawling is the common method of shrimp fishing that causes damage to demersal organisms. The head of the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran announced a research project aimed at assessing the feasibility of using midwater trawls to catch shrimp.
