The second session of healthy seed production in the fisheries sector was held at the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute with the presence of Dr. Zand, the advisor to the minister and the head of the National Convention on Biological Diversity, and the deputy director of aquaculture of the Iran Fisheries Organizationas well as the representative of the Iran Veterinary Organization. At the meeting, Dr. Hafezieh, the deputy director of research and technology of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, pointed to the various species that exist in a variety of aquatic organisms and said:The three main topics discussed at the meeting include selective breeding of rainbow trout, the aquatic gene bank and producing Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) shrimp broodstock. He continued: According to the latest statistics of the Iran Fisheries Organization, the production of rainbow trout in the country is about 170,000 tons which will reach 211,000 tons on the horizon of the Sixth National Development Plan. The industry needs 600 million eyed eggs a year, 60 percent of which are currently imported.Dr. Hafezieh stated:If we consider the average price of each eyed egg as 500 Tomans, a significant amount of currency will be taken out of the country for this purpose every year. Therefore, researchers of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute must take action to produce the technical knowledge of selective breeding of rainbow trout and providing a percentage of the country's needs and have developed a project for selective breeding of this fish. The Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute supports the import of a percentage of rainbow trout eyed eggs in order to preserve its genetic richness. He believes that the implementation of the selective breeding of rainbow trout project requires 9 to 10 years of time and sufficient funds which in the first stage, it is necessary to have the support of the government and then by transferring the technical knowledge can encourage the private sector to invest. Dr. Jorfi presented a detailed report on the selective breeding of rainbow trout project, during which she mentioned the facilities and infrastructure of the Shahid Motahari Genetics and Breeding Research Center of Coldwater Fish -Yasuj, the construction activities carried out, the holding of training courses and the development of a biosecurity regulations. According to her, the production of 500 rainbow trout brood fish, the production of a high - diversity baseline population and the selection of the best brood fish among these populations will be among the achievements of the selective breeding project.Dr. Eskandar Zand, the advisor to the minister and the head of the National Convention on Biological Diversity, noted the importance of seed production in the various sectors of agriculture and mentioned:The purpose of these sessions is to produce healthy seeds for shrimp and rainbow trout. Dr. Zand believes that after the production of primary cores, the culture of using them should also be formed in the exploiters. He added:Creating an aquatic gene bank is very important if it is for practical purposes.Dr. Abdolhahi, the deputy director of aquaculture development of the Iran Fisheries Organization, also mentioned the important role of the private sector in the field of selective breeding and said:In most developed countries, such as France, the private sector has taken on the task of selective breeding and aquaculture after the government developed the rules and standards.Dr. Bahmani further stated:Since the selective breeding of aquatic organisms is a government activity, a practical plan must be envisaged for it.Therefore, it is necessary to form a working group for this purpose with the cooperation of the Iran Fisheries and the Iran Veterinary Organization in order to finally compile a national document in the above mentioned field.Referring to the second topic of the meeting, Dr. Hafezieh said:The importance of creating aquatic gene banks is an issue that is not hidden from anyone. Researchers at the institute have also introduced 14 titles to the aquatic gene bank which has finally been set up to create a living gene bank for three species of aquatic organisms due to its very high cost, including asp, bulatmai barbel and Artemia. In this regard, Dr. Golshan presented a report on genetic resources and aquatic gene banks. He believes that the best way to protect resources is to preserve them in nature and the establishment of gene banks is a second priority.Dr. Golshan introduced the material and spiritual support along with national determination, participation of the exploiting community and providing information by the national media and public media as well as empowering the scientific staff through scientific and educational visits as the most important needs of the aquatic gene bank.Regarding the establishment of the aquatic gene bank, Dr. Bahmani said that the institute is ready to cooperate with the Iran Fisheries Organization in rebuilding of aquatic resources and stated:In the matter of rebuilding of aquatic resources, it is necessary to plan to change the pattern of performance and it is hoped that the private sector will have the necessary cooperation in this field as well.Dr. Hafezieh further introduced the Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) shrimp broodstock production as the third important issue and said:This year, 10,000 male - female pairs of SPF shrimp broodstock will be produced by the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran in Bushehr province and considering the country's need for 60,000 male-female pairs of shrimp broodstock, the transfer of technical knowledge to the private sectorcould lead to the sustainability and promotion of the shrimp farming industry.Dr. Ghaednia gave a comprehensive report on the macro project for the acquisition and transfer of technical knowledge of mass production of Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) shrimp broodstock in the country and the elimination of dependence on foreign products.Dr. Bahmani said about the production of shrimp and Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) shrimp broodstock:The Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute is ready to transfer technical knowledge to the private sector in the form of the rules and regulations of the Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization and this issue has also been raised in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture Jihad.Of course, the production of technical knowledge is an ongoing process that will be planned by this institute. It should be noted that Dr. Sharifian, Dr. Hossein Zadeh, Dr. Sepahdari, Mr. Faiezi, Dr. Moradi and Dr. Mirbakhsh, the colleagues from the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, Dr. Shakouri, Dr. Karami, Dr. Abdolhahi, Dr. Nafari, Mr. Maadani and Mr. Mohammad Yari, the colleagues from the Iran Fisheries Organization, and also Dr. Alavi from the Iran Veterinary Organization were present at the meeting and expressed his views on the three issues raised.
