The Planning and Development Council meeting was held with the presence of Dr. Hemmati, the governor of Hormozgan province, the deputy governors of Hormozgan province, Mr. Daryanavard, the head of the Management and Planning Organization the province and other managers of the administrative council. The Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Ecological Research Institute had a specialized report with the title of "Investigating the status of aquatic resources under exploitation in Hormozgan province" on the agenda of the meeting. In this regard, Dr. Mortazavi, the head of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Ecological Research Institute, provided detailed explanations about the short - lived aquatic resources including shrimp, sardines and anchovies as well as demersal fish and cutlassfishes that were of interest to the governor and other participants. He pointed to the decline in commercial demersal fish stocks in 2018 - 2019 compared to previous years. Dr. Mortazavi emphasized the necessity of managing the catch of this group of aquatic organisms. He presented the results of changes in the catch rate and TAC of commercial shrimpspecies in the province. The head of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Ecological Research Institute stressed that factors such as habitat destruction and pollutant entry into coastal waters are among the most important challenges and threats to shrimp resources.Considering the role of small pelagic fish resources on the livelihoods of coastal peoples, he called for the reduction in fishing effort of small pelagic fish especially in the waters of Qeshm Island. The questions raised by the participants at the Planning and Development Council meeting were answered and then management decisions were taken on some of the fisheries challenges in the province. It was also decided that a specialized working group should be set up to prepare a provincial action plan for the conservation and management of the aquatic resources under exploitation in Hormozgan province.
