The joint meeting with the members of the Makran Coast Development Secretariat on "Investigating the capacity of the region in fisheries for development of Makran coasts" was held at the Chabahar Offshore Fisheries Research Center with the presence of Dr. Hosseini, the head of the Chabahar Offshore Fisheries Research Center, Dr. Allahyari, Mr. Gholi Jafar and Mr. Golshani, the members of the Makran Coast Development Secretariat, Mr. Amiri, the head of the fisheries and aquaculture development monitoring group of the Department of Fisheries of the province and Dr. Hashemi, the deputy director of research of the Chabahar Offshore Fisheries Research Center. The meeting was held to enhance the empowerment of local communities and sustainable development in the region. The involvement of local communities in the development process in this development program and
the use of exogenous and endogenous capacities (native to the Makran coast) were examined with a particular view to endogenous capacities at the meeting. Given that 55 % of capture fisheries activities in the country are carried out in the Makran coastal areas and tuna play an important role in this area, identifying missing rings of the tuna value chain was the main focus at this meeting. Also, given that empowering local communities is a key issue in the development of Makran coasts and considering the 25 % share of training in regional development, the issue of utilizing the existing capacities of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute to hold training courses in the field of fisheries was discussed. In addition, the use of other potential specialties in the region such as lobster farming, shrimp farming and coastal aquaculture as well as seaweed farming were also discussed. At the end, it was decided that strategies and proposals for the implementation plans to complete the tuna value chain, the training course package and other issues raised in the joint
meeting with the members of the Makran Coast Development Secretariat should be presented at the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute by the Chabahar Offshore Fisheries Research Center in February 2020.
