The first meeting of the coldwater fish working group focused on rainbow trout selective breeding. The meeting was held at the session hall of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institutewith the presence of the director, deputies and the heads as well as the experts from specialized departments of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute with the participation of the deputy director of aquaculture development of the
Iran Fisheries Organization, the experts from the Iran Fisheries Organization, the heads of the national unions and the coldwater fish cooperative of the country and the managers of the rainbow trout selective breeding and farming centers from different parts of the country. At the meeting, Dr. Bahmani, the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, welcomed the participants and emphasized the need for greater synergy among various departments of the institute and the Iran Fisheries Organization as well as the private sector in order to promote the better implementation of the project. He announced the institute's full readiness to participate in the establishment of a rainbow trout selective breeding center in the country in collaboration with private sector and executive organizations. The director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute also invited participants to provide constructive criticism and effective solutions to the project. In the next part of the meeting, Dr. Abdulhai presented a detailed report on the activities of the TCP's cooperation project with the FAO. Concerning the issue of reproduction and production of rainbow trout, Dr. Sinki, one of the activists in the private sector, outlined a comparison of rainbow trout selective breeding methods in the European executive organizations.Dr. Nazari, the deputy director of research
of the Shahid Motahari Genetics and breeding Research Center of Coldwater Fish – Yasuj, presented the rainbow trout selective breeding project of the institute. He outlined the structure and implementation process of the project to establish the rainbow trout selective breeding research center in Yasuj by the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute.Dr. Hafezieh, the deputy director of research and technology of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, delivered a lecture on the appropriate model and method of collaborating and interacting with the private sector during the implementation
of the rainbow trout selective breeding project. Private sector activists and members of the active unions in the field of reproduction and production of rainbow trout as well as experts and scholars from the Iranian Fisheries
Science and Research Institute and the Iran Fisheries Organization provided their reviews in this regard and discussed various aspects of the rainbow trout selective breeding project. During the meeting, a number of private sector activists announced their full readiness to participate in the rainbow trout selective breeding project. Finally, it was decided to establish a secretariat for the coldwater fish working group at the institute. Moreover, it was decided that the representatives of executive organizations and unions need to be introduced to the secretariat and the future meetings and follow - ups should take place through the secretariat.
