During a ceremony held at the Bandar Anzali fishing pier with the presence of the managers and officials of the provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan and Golestan as well as the Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization, the Iran Fisheries Organization and the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, the Gilan research ship (11000 tons) began operating again after an eight - year halt on 18 December, 2019. At the event, Dr. Khavazi, the head of the Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization, Hujjat al - Islam Saeedian, the head of the Supreme Leader’s Representative Office, Dr. Bahmani, the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, Dr. Tanhaei, the deputy director of human resource development and management of the Governor of Gilan province, Mr. Kochaki Nejad, the representative of Rasht City in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mr. Mohebbi, the deputy director of capture fisheries and fisting ports of the Iran Fisheries Organization, spoke about the importance of research in the Caspian Sea and the importance of the Gilan research ship in realizing this.It is worth noting that the Gilan Ship is the only national research vessel of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Caspian Sea that resumed its operation after repair, equipping and obtaining up – to - date maritime certifications and returned to the fisheries research cycle.The Gilan research ship was built in 1971 in Russia with the following specifications: length: 54 m, width: over 9 m, draft (hull): 4 m and engine: 1000 HP.The ship is equipped with world - class navigation and telecommunications systems, specialized laboratories, sampling winches up to 1000 meters deep and nets for pelagic trawling and bottom trawling. The Gilan research ship is capable of operating at sea for 30 consecutive days.Implementation of hydrology, hydrobiology and environmental pollution assessment projects, stock assessment of Kilka by hydroacoustic methods, stock assessment of sturgeons at different depths of the Caspian Sea, cooperation in research projects of organizations and institutions abroad such as the Kaspenirkh Fisheries Research Institute in Russia, the Veniero University in Russia and the Erdemli, Institute of Marine Sciences in Turkey as well as cooperation in research projects of organizations and institutions of the country such as the International Sturgeon Research Institute, the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science, Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Iran National Cartographic Center, Ministry of Petroleum and the Department of Environment are part of the research activities of this vessel.At the end of the ceremony, the Gilan research ship left the Bandar Anzali fishing pier and after a successful patrol and four hours of sailing and testing of various technical and navigation components, the ship successfully landed at the fishing pier.
