In order to execute the macro project of stock assessment of benthic resources in the Oman Sea and recording ecological parameters and investigating various fishing and capture fisheries issues, an intimate meeting was held between the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute and the Chabahar Fisheries Cooperative Union and the fisheries society of Sistan and Baluchestan Province. The meeting was held at the session hall of the Chabahar Offshore Fisheries Research Center with the presence of the general manager of the Sistan and Baluchestan Department of Fisheries, Dr. Sistani, and the deputy director of capture fisheries of the Department of Fisheries, Mr. Daemi. At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Hosseini, the head of the Chabahar Offshore Fisheries Research Center, welcomed the guests and introduced the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute and the accompanying delegation to the fisheries society of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, hoping that this meeting would provide an effective and acceptable plan in this regard. The general
manager of the Sistan and Baluchestan Department of Fisheries welcomed the guests and described the activities of the Sistan and Baluchestan Department of Fisheries.Dr. Bahmani appreciated the efforts of the fishing community and introduces scientific and promotional activities of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute. He announced the readiness of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute to hold various training courses related to fisheries.Dr. Bahmani also expressed his views on the fishery stock status and the need for cooperation of all fisheries beneficiaries, including the fishermen's unions, capture
fisheries cooperatives, fishermen and the Department of Fisheries and research for sustainable exploitation of fishery resources. The director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute added:By coordinating across all fisheries sectors, the results of this project will make fisheries achievements more productive.Dr. Taghavi Motlagh, the advisor to the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, highlighted the importance of examining the status of benthic resources and the method of conducting research patrol by the vessel Ferdows - 1. He outlined the difference between this project and the activities of the commercial fishing trawlers. Dr. Taghavi Motlagh invited the representatives of the fishing community to board the vessel Ferdows - 1 and get acquainted with its activities.Dr. Hossein Zadeh, the deputy director of fisheries and aquaculture extension and transfer of research findings, also pointed to the vibrant presence of the fisheries society in the programs of the Iranian
Fisheries Science and Research Institute, including the restoration of prawn resources, and stated:The experience of the fishermen along with the expertise of the experts of the
Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute will lead to decisions that we hope will lead to sustainable capture fisheries which will guarantee the job of fishermen and the next generation. The representatives of fishermen complained about the activity of the fishing trawlers and their destructive role in the region and mentioned: The fishing trawlers have to comply with fishing regulations and restrictions, which have been observed in their three decades of existence. Dr. Taghavi Motlagh said: Due to the high diversity of species in the study of benthic resources, only the trawl method can be used to provide appropriate solutions and the surface area under study is relatively small compared to the Oman Sea area and also the range of activity of the fishing trawlers seems to be very small. It was also decided that the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute should provide fishermen as soon as possible with the results of the project to assess the status of benthic resources by comparing the amount of resources in
different years. The fishermen also introduced two delegates to attend the research patrol of the vessel Ferdows - 1 to closely observe the sampling procedures. The Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute is required to submit the results of the project to fishermen and operators at a maximum of one month after the research patrol.
