International Workshop on Genetics and Selective Breeding of Rainbow Trout (TCP / IRA / 3602 – LOA – 18 – 001) began on September 30, 2019 and will continue for three days with the lectures on "Current Status of Aquatic Genetic Resources in the World and Genetic Applications in Aquaculture, Evaluation Report of Rainbow Trout Genetic Diversity in Selected Iranian Farms, Assessment of Genetic Diversity and Application of Molecular Genetic Data in Selective Breeding, Theoretical Principles of Selective Breeding and Interaction of Genotype and Environment in Breeding with Laboratory Operations". The International Workshop on Genetics and Selective Breeding of Rainbow Trout was held at the Coldwater Fishes Research Center of Tonekabon with the presence of Dr. Fersoy, the representative of FAO, university professors, researchers from the Iranian
Fisheries Science and Research Institute, the experts from the Iran Fisheries Organization and the private sector. At the opening ceremony of the workshop, Dr. Mohseni, the head of the Coldwater Fishes Research Center of Tonekabon, welcomed the guestsand provided an overview of the research performance and the most important research achievements of the center in recent years and the implementation process of the FAO joint agreement with Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute.Mr. Karami Rad, the general manager of the office for rebuilding resources of aquatics and conservation of aquatic genetic resources of the Iran Fisheries Organization spoke about the importance of aquaculture and selective breeding in the world and the programs of the Iran Fisheries Organization in the aforementioned areas in the country as well as the opportunities and challenges facing selective breeding and aquaculture industry. Dr. Fersoy, the representative of FAO, presented a report on the current status of aquatic genetic resources in the world, improving genetic techniques and strategies, and application of genetic engineering to selective breeding of aquatics. Then, the workshop continued according to the schedule.
