In line with the statement of Mr. Hojati, the minister of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, on the development of the role of fisheries science research in enhancing the productivity of processing of aquatic products in the country, the expert meeting to prioritize effective programs focusing on the development and improvement of the active private sectors was held at the National Fish Processing Research Center of the National Inland Water Aquaculture Institute with the presence of Dr. Bahmani, the director the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, the deputies of the institute, the head of the biotechnology department of the institute, the head and deputies of the National Inland Water Aquaculture Institute and experts and researchers from the Caspian Sea Ecology Research Center and the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Ecological Research Institute. At the meeting, after presenting reports from the above mentioned research centers and providing expert analysis and exchange of views, the preparation of an executive program based on the scientific knowledge of the research carried out was on the agenda. It was decided that a full operational plan in the field of exploitation of fish processing byproducts in order to produce value - added products, diversification into processed aquatic products and optimizing the handling and packaging of aquatic products should be prepared by all experts, researchers and scholars from the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, Universities and executive centers of the Iran Fisheries Organization to meet the basic needs of the private sector, increase consumption and introduce new products from aquatic organisms. They also prioritized the exploitation of the capacity of kilka fish, anchovy and sardines as well as marine cage fish farming, fishery wastes and fish processing byproducts for the institute. On the sidelines of the meeting, a visit was made to the potential of the National Fish Processing Research Center (UNIDO) of the National Inland Water Aquaculture Instituteand upgrading, refurbishing and equipping it was emphasized by Dr. Bahmani.
