Research patrols for shrimp fishery management began in Hormozgan province.Dr. Mortazavi, the head of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Ecological Research Institute, said: Research patrols were conducted to estimate the levels of total allowable catch and determine the reopening time to start shrimp fishery in Hormozgan province on September 14, 2019, for 5 days with the presence of experts from the department of biology and the department of fisheries stock assessment of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Ecological Research Institute and in cooperation with the Hormozgan Department of Fisheries. Every year, research patrols are conducted monthly to survey and manage Hormozgan shrimp stocks using local launch vessels. In these studies, sampling of shrimp stocks is performed each month at depths of 5 to 35 meters by trawling in the shrimp fishery area from Sirik to Dargahan areas in the north of Qeshm Island in order to monitor spawning status, the introduction of the new generation of shrimp into the main habitat and growth of juvenile shrimp. With the arrival of the shrimp fishery season, research patrols to investigate the shrimp stocks with the aim of determining the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) and the appropriate time to start the shrimp fishery season began with the deployment of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Ecological Research Institute research team on six local launch vessels. The purpose of these surveys is to maximize the economic benefits of shrimp fishery of commercially valuable species of Fenneropenaeus merguiensis for the fishing community and shrimp processing industry. According to research, the best Fenneropenaeus merguiensis size in which shrimp fishery has the most economic benefits is when the carapace length of shrimp reaches 28 mm. The average weight and length of commercially valuable shrimps in Hormozgan province are about 17 grams and 150 mm long, respectively mand shrimp stock will reach its maximum value at this time. The results of these surveys will be made available to the Hormozgan Department of Fisheries to manage Hormozgan shrimp resources. The shrimp fishery season in Hormozgan province will last about 45 days and about six local launch vessels will be active in the catchment area. Monitoring the status of shrimp stocks during the fishery season will also be carried out through sampling by the experts of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Ecological Research Institute using fishing vessels. By reducing the catch per unit effort (CPUE) and using stock assessment models, it will be possible to determine the end of the catch and the exploitation of shrimp stocks. The commercially valuable species of shrimp in Hormozgan province include 6 species of Fenneropenaeus merguiensis, Penaeus semisulcatus, Fenneropenaeus indicus, Metapenaeus affinis, Metapenaeus stebbingi and Parapenaeopsis stylifera. The catch composition for shrimp in Hormozgan province is about 70 % from Fenneropenaeus merguiensis , 23 % from M etapenaeus affinis and the remaining 7 % from other shrimp species.
