Dr. Adel Azar, the head of the Supreme Audit Court, the head of the West Azerbaijan Department of Fisheries and the manager of fisheries and aquaculture of the province visited the innovations, research capabilities and laboratory facilities. During a meeting, Dr. Nekoui Fard, the head of the Iranian Artemia Research Center, said: In addition to research on Artemia, the center has conducted applied research on aquaculture in the West Azerbaijan province and northwest of the country. In this regard, the project to assess the potential of the reservoir dams for cage fish farming, reproduction and production of Astacus leptodactylus in the earthen ponds at the Poldasht Martyr Kazemi Center, estimation of Astacus leptodactylus resources in the Aras Dam Lake which resulted in the fishing ban in 2019 - 2020 based on the findings of the project and estimation of Artemia resources in Lake Urmia which is continuously running at 5 stations in the lake, are among the projects of the Iranian Artemia Research Center. Based on the findings of the assessment of Artemia resources in Lake Urmia, it was found that there are 56,130 Artemia cysts per cubic meter of water. At present, there are 748 tons of Artemia cysts in the lake, only 10 percent of which, about 52 tons can be harvested from Lake Urmia, and with this amount, 90 percent of the country's demand for this product is provided.
