The first meeting of the headquarters of the institute to coordinate and plan the implementation of this national project in 3 provinces of the country in 2019-2020 was held at the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute with the presence of the deputy director of fisheries and aquaculture extension and transfer of research findings, the national and provincial project executors, the head of the department of shrimp and other aquatics of the institute and the relevant experts of the headquarters. At the meeting, the report of coordination and initial activities in 3 provinces of Bushehr, Khuzestan and Hormozgan was presented. For further coordination, it was decided that the operational program of each province would be prepared individually by the national project executors and in coordination with the headquarters of the Institute, and then sent to the provincial executors. Red-head in cultured shrimp annually imposes a significant financial loss on the shrimp farmers due to the lack of quality of cultured shrimp, thus reducing the price of shrimp in world markets (from 20 to 60 cents per kilogram of shrimp), which is a huge loss to this sector. In order to prevent this complication, the extension project was designed and implemented to manage and prevent red-head in cultured shrimp in two provinces of Hormozgan and Bushehr in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019. Regarding the successful impact of this project in the model sites of the project as well as the satisfaction and demand of the Iran Fisheries Organization for the continuation of the project, the National Extension Project for Prevention of Red-Head in Shrimp was launched this year at the national level and its implementation began.
