The implementation of the National Plan for Genetic Modification of Common Carp is in progress with scientific cooperation between the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute and theResearch InstituteforFisheriesand Aquaculture (Hungarianacronym is HAKI)and the financial support of the Plan and Budget Organization of Khuzestan province and the Center for Progress and Development of Iran of the Presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The first phase of this project was launched with the participation of the private sector in June 2019. A total of 9,000 juvenile Tata carp (imported from Hungary in 2019) were donated to the private sector with the aim of examining the fish growth process under the commercial farming conditions and under the supervision of researchers from the research institute. Accordingly, it was decided to record biometric data at the end of the rearing season and to return a number of fish as brooder fish to be kept at the gene bank of common carp. It should be noted that four groups of common
carp including the Tata carp, carp imported from China and two carp groups derived from the private reproduction centers have been collected at the institute. After the overwintering stage of the last year, operations were carried out to reduce the density of fish for all groups in the rearing ponds of the South of Iran Aquaculture Research Center and the numbers of fish were determined and their biological measures were recorded. The ultimate goal of this farming period is to study the growth status of fish, providing superior brooder fish from each population for storage in the populations of the gene bank of common carp.
