The training workshop on socio-economic analysis of capture fisheries (the joint project with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) was held in Tehran with the presence of a number of managers, officials and researchers involved in capture fisheries management from the Iran Fisheries Organization and the Department of Fisheries of the Provinces, the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute and the affiliated research centers, dated 29 April 2019. The benefits of the ecosystem based approach in capture fisheries management and the need to collect and analyze data and socioeconomic information of each fishery and turn them into interpretable indicators and part of the results of the project of socio-economic analysis with emphasis on "Providing socio-economic indicators of Kilka fishery in Gilan and Mazandaran provinces" were presented to the participants in the workshop. On the other hand, the bio-economic model of Kilka fishery in the Caspian Sea for the sustainable exploitation of Kilka stocks, the use of Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) as a target reference point, Maximum Economic Yield (MEY) and the amount of fishing effort associated with these reference points were presented to the participants in the training workshop. Overall, the purpose of the training workshop was to build capacity in fisheries management (the Iran Fisheries Organization and the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute) for socio-economic analysis of capture fisheries in the country and considering socio-economic dimensions in implementing fisheries management. Considering human dimensions is one of the important dimensions of fisheries management which is considered in the ecosystem based management approach. The role of fishermen and exploiters as factors affecting the ecosystem must be taken into account.
