The director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute said at the first meeting of the scientific and technical committee in the New Year that the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad is now tied up to solve the flood crisis in different parts of the country and all the colleagues in the ministry are looking for solutions to better and more quickly deal with the problems of flood victims especially farmers, producers and exploiters and to save them from the homelessness abyss. Dr. Mohammad Pourkazemi said that part of the damaged units belong to the fish farming units, and added: Unfortunately, about 1,000 coldwater and warmwater fish farming units have been damaged due to the recent floods which according to the promise of the Minister of Agriculture Jahad, damage to all affected units and farms will be compensated. According to the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, the shortage of oxygen for fish, the destruction of part of the facilities and equipment of the fish farming units caused by the flooding of rivers and the flow of water and mud to the fish farming units that have not met the standard distance from the rivers are among the most important causes of damage in the aquaculture sector. In addition, more than 2,000 pumping stations have been destroyed in various areas in the agricultural sector. Dr. Pourkazemi pointed out that the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute along with the Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization and the Iran Fisheries Organization will not hesitate about any scientific assistance to manage the crisis. He continued: The establishment of a committee to track the destructive effects of floods in order to determine the exact amount of damages, locating new areas for aquaculture and providing priority inputs is a necessity. Dr. Pourkazemi mentioned: The Basiji movement and effort to help flood victims need the participation of people and executive organizations. He stated: Considering that the crisis has affected the income of more than a million farmers in different sectors, the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute like other institutions is ready to provide all of its scientific capabilities in the 11 research institutes and research centers to the affected people to take effective steps to improve their problems. At the end, he emphasized: Although flooding caused a lot of problems for vast areas of the country, it also caused the wetlands and rivers to be filled with water and the aquifers were somewhat filled with water which will ultimately benefit the biodiversity, genetic resources and subsequently, the sustainability of the aquaculture industry and, of course, the entire agricultural sector.
