At the 4th National Shrimp Conference in Bushehr, Dr. Mohammad Pourkazemi pointed out that the research results and achievements of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute have played a significant role in the development of shrimp production in the country, said: introducing new species of vannamei shrimp to the shrimp industry and conducting dozens of related research projects, acquisition and localization of the technical knowledge of the production of SPF shrimp as the fifth country in the world that has the technical knowledge to control the specific diseases of shrimp, introducing probiotics and transferring its technical knowledge by producing 3 tons per year to the private sector, production of the kit for identifying the white spot syndrome virus in shrimp and control and combat the phenomenon of shrimp redhead are among the most important achievements of the institute.Dr. Pourkazemi about the fisheries and aquaculture extension activities of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute mentioned: Holding dozens of educational workshops on the transfer of achievements to beneficiaries and exploiters with the presence of the development researcher in the field of production and tens of farm days, publication and release of dozens of technical instructions and guidelines for reproduction, farming, dealing with diseases, holding national and regional conferences with the invitation of professors and experts and transferring experiences in order to empower shrimp producers of the country are part of the performance of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute in the development of shrimp production in the country, whose production will surpass 40 thousand tons in 2018 - 2019 by the efforts of all beneficiaries and producers.Dr. Pourkazemi added: The program for localization of the technical knowledge to control the specific diseases of shrimp (production of the Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) shrimp) has been successfully completed with the support of the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology of the Presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Bushehr Governorate. Our researchers managed to produce 3,000 pairs of SPF shrimp last year and 4,000 pairs of SPF shrimp this year and delivered them to the private sector.
According  to him, the production of shrimp reached its lowest level in 2007 - 2008 due to  some problems and diseases. For this reason, the research colleagues introduced  the vannamei shrimp to the country after conducting various studies that we are  witnessing the development of its production year by year. Of course, in this  direction, the supports of the deputy director of aquaculture of the Iran  Fisheries Organization and the Department of Fisheries of the provinces as well  as the efforts of the exploiters have had a great impact on this success.
Dr. Pourkazemi believes that our generation is now the inheritor of genetic reserves and we should not hesitate to save it and transfer it to subsequent generations. For this reason, the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute are conducted studies with full force on the shrimp reserves, the age, the beginning and ending of fishery season, the standardization of fishing gears, the research on the amount of pollution at sea and its impact on shrimp and consumer health and the industrial and productive activities.  According to the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, production of probiotics is one of the greatest achievements of fisheries researchers of the country. He added: Increasing the safety factor, reducing the feed conversion ratio and the high productivity are of the most important results of the use of probiotics in shrimp farms. Currently, the farms that use this product have clearly confirmed the increase in production per unit area.He continued: The technical knowledge of the intensive production of 20 tons of shrimp per hectare with the approach of 2 times harvest per year and the minimum water usage as well as the production of the molecular diagnostic kit for the fight against the white spot syndrome in shrimp and transferring it to a knowledge base company are among other achievements of the fisheries researchers of the country in the field of shrimp industry.According to Dr. Pourkazemi, the phenomenon of shrimp redhead, which has a negative impact on the value of its exports, has caused a lot of damage to the production sector. After extensive research by the domestic researchers and the efforts of the research institute and the deputy directorate of the fisheries and aquaculture extension of the institute and training of exploiters in various farms, the extent of observation of this phenomenon in the farms has reached to a maximum of 10%. Of course, according to the program, in the coming years, the number of farms under control will increase and training will be increased to reduce the mentioned percentage to the minimum.About the white spot syndrome in shrimp, Dr. Pourkazemi said: The training of a large number of exploiters was carried out in 6 farms and 3 sites to control the white spot syndrome. Along with these, production of motion graphics and sending various text messages and information in a variety of ways were on the agenda in order to prevent the disease from harming the development of shrimp industry in the country.Dr. Pourkazemi expressed that the selective breeding of vannamei shrimp is one of the priorities of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute and the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran. He added: For this purpose, one of the Brazilian expert professors responsible for the management of selective breeding of shrimp in 8 countries has been invited to learn from his knowledge. In this regard, the national document for the selective breeding of shrimp has been prepared. In the end, the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute noted that three affiliated research institutes to the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute have received their definitive approval from the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, this year. Dr. Pourkazemi mentioned: One of them is the Shrimp Research Institute of Iran - Bushehr which is especially responsible for the research and development of shrimp farming throughout the country.
