The production of Iranian fisheries products has grown 40 times since the Islamic Revolution and has increased from 32 thousand tons in 1979 to 1.2 million tons in 2019. This huge achievement is the result of unprecedented efforts in the field of fisheries in the country over the past 40 years. Export of fisheries products increased from $ 11 million in 1979 to $ 507 million in 2019. The Iran Fisheries Organization has played a significant role in increasing the production and income generation for the country and its performance has been successful. Currently, the rank of fisheries production of the country has increased from around seventy to twenty-seven in the world. Marine aquaculture and capture fisheries in deep and offshore waters, as well as shrimp farming in saltwater were among the natural capacities that has been activated by the actions of the Iran Fisheries Organization in this period. According to FAO statistics, Iran currently ranked 19th in aquaculture and ranked 28th in capture fisheries in the world, and has been the world leader in the production of coldwater fish (rainbow trout) in freshwater. Iran is ranked first in fisheries production and is ranked second in aquaculture in the Middle East region. Iran is ranked first in tuna fisheries in the west of the Indian Ocean. The average of per capita consumption of aquatics increased from 1 kilogram in 1979 to 11.2 kilograms in 2019. The production of fish in the sea was almost zero in 1979, reaching more than 14 thousand tons in 2019. The achievements of the fisheries sector are the result of the effort and the participation of the government and people and are among the honors of the country and the system. Introducing and reporting these achievements is essential. During the ceremony, Mr. Hojjati appreciated the work of Dr. Hassan Salehi, the former director of the Iran Fisheries Organization. Mr. Hojjati highlighted the success of the fisheries sector as a result of his management over the past five years and praised his efforts and the efforts of colleagues in the Iran Fisheries Organization.
