Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute was held in the Fajr Hall of the Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization with the presence of more than 300 officials, researchers, professors and scholars interested in research in various fields of fisheries sciences. Almost all the pioneers were present at the ceremony. Dr. Mohammad Pourkazemi, the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, presented the documentary evidence from the National Library of Iran and a historical record of fishing and capture fisheries in the Caspian Sea. He described the history of fisheries research in Iran, which began more than 117 years ago. The first research station was established in Iran in 1919 as an ichthyology laboratory. He emphasized the necessity of taking advantage of all national capacities in the development of applied research, in particular the benefits of past experiences and the use of the capacities of universities and the private sector. Dr. Pourkazemi highlighted the importance of future studies, cooperation with international organizations and the localization of technical knowledge. During the ceremony, Hojatoleslam Saeidian made the audience acquainted with the spiritual spirit of the research and mentioned that this is so useful to the community, without which it is not possible to provide food for one nation. Dr. Kazem Khavazi, the deputy minister and the head of the Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization, also emphasized the importance of research in the field of fisheries sciences. He called the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute as one of the leading institutions in the field of research in fisheries sciences and asked the researchers to focus more on the research of marine algae for forage, as well as outsourcing activities, collaborating with the private sector, and employing young professionals in the manufacturing sector. At the ceremony, centered on "A century of research and effectiveness in the various fields of fisheries sciences in the country", Dr. Hossein Emadi, a former director of the institute, narrated the memories of the past and talked about the bitterness and sweets in this area with emphasis on the reproduction ofSalmo trutta caspius. Several hymns were performed. The clip of introductions of managers and the institute and the clip of research achievements were played. The winners of painting and photography contest were introduced. The exhibition on fishing gears and old laboratory equipment was held. Most importantly, the stamp of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute was unveiled at the ceremony with the presence of the deputy minister, the head of the Supreme Leader’s Representative Office of the Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization, the director of the institute and the representatives of the Iran Fisheries Organization.
