The National-Regional Congress on Aquaculture - Management and Improvement of Water Resources Efficiency by focusing on water scarcity was held with the support of the Governorate, Planning and Budget Organization, Water and Power Authority, Department of Fisheries, Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology of the Presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran and other national and provincial institutions and organizations. The congress was held on January 15 and January 16, 2019 in the presence of researchers, university professors, experts in the aquaculture industry, exploiters, officials and national and provincial governors and experts from Iraq at the Boostan Ahvaz international conference center. At the beginning of the conference, after reading the verses of the holy Quran, the national anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the message of the deputy minister of the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad and the head of the Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization were read. Hojatoleslam Dr. Daghaghaleh, the representative of the Supreme Leader in the Organization of Agriculture- Jahad of Khuzestan province, mentioned some issues related to aquatic organisms. Dr. Simin Dehghan Mediseh, the head of the South of Iran Aquaculture Research Center and the scientific secretary of the congress welcomed the audience and thanked the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, the deputy director of aquaculture development of the Iran Fisheries Organization, the head of the Organization of Agriculture- Jahad of Khuzestan Province, managing director of Khuzestan Water and Power Authority, the representative of the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology of the Presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran and general manager of the Department of Fisheries. She added: Droughts have numerous environmental, social and economic consequences, and one of the areas affected by drought is aquaculture. Due to geographical and regional sensitivity, our country should consider the management of the water crisis at every stage of history and development. Mr. Changlouei, the head of the Organization of Agriculture- Jahad of Khuzestan Province, said: Due to the drought and water crisis associated with the aquaculture and fisheries development in Khuzestan province, productivity enhancement programs have been developed with the efforts of the officials working in the implementation sections and in the field of fisheries research with particular attention to innovation and reliance on scientific principles that can be used to construct and develop fish farming complexes. Dr. Pourkazemi, the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute and the chairman of the congress, warned that the rapid increase in world population growth and the issue of food security, the shortage of water resources especially available freshwater resources, and the phenomenon of climate change together with the general increase in global temperature are from the crises facing human societies. He proposed strategic plans for the optimal use of freshwater resources in the production of freshwater fish, increased productivity in order to increase production per unit area of fish farms, application of mechanization in promoting production and reducing water use, changing the pattern of farming in the process of aquaculture and production of aquatic organisms, the use of unconventional waters (drains and wastewater), the replacement of brackish water and saline water resources to reduce the pressure on freshwater resources, integrated aquaculture and modern technologies to reduce water use, rehabilitation and rebuilding of aquatic resources using water resources and conducting additional studies in the field of economics and ecology. He concluded in the end that the water crisis is serious and stated that managing the water crisis and climate change phenomenon could only be managed by planning, thinking and using all national and international capacities especially futures studies. Dr. Khon Mirzaei, the general manager of the Department of Fisheries of the Province, and Dr. Latifi, the head of the working group on biotechnology and environment of the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology of the Presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, outlined the plans of the department under his management system for improvement of water resources efficiency. Key lectures, specialized meetings and presentation of papers in specialized panels were presented in two days. On the second day of the conference, the conference ended by reading the resolution, introducing superior articles, taking photos and cheering of the audience.
