During the last decades, the Caspian Sea has undergone massive changes. Among these changes, the Caspian Sea water level fluctuations, environmental pollution and especially the reduction of the indigenous fish resources of the Caspian Sea. In this regard, the five nations sharing the Caspian Sea coastline gathered at the meeting of the Caspian Sea, the future of scientific research in the city of Moscow at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology. Researchers from different countries reviewed the past issues and the current state of the Caspian Sea in their speeches. In addition to the representatives from the Iran National Science Foundation and researchers from the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science, Dr Pourkazemi, the director of the Iranian Fisheries Science, and Research Institute and Dr. Fazli, the deputy director of research at the Caspian Sea Ecology Research Center, participated at the summit. At the meeting, Dr. Pourkazemi lectured on the living gene banks in the Caspian Sea, and Dr. Fazli lectured on the changes in the Caspian Sea fish stocks especially the fish stocks of Clupeonella spp. and the effects of Mnemiopsis leidyi on the stocks of these fish. At the end of the summit, the members presented their proposals and organized a program for future summit to be held in Iran next spring.
