The marine research patrol began for the macro project "Biomass estimation of benthic organisms in the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea and its relation to the important ecological parameters" on the ship of Ferdos 1 in the coastal waters of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, from the region of Gwadar to the region of Meydani, in the presence of Mr. Mirmorad Zehi, the director general of the Department of Fisheries of the province, Dr. Hosseini, the head of the research center, project executives and experts and the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting of the province for news dissemination. This macro project is in line with the goals of sustainable exploitation of fish near the benthic zone and demersal fish stocks in the waters of the southern seas of the country which for the first time using the fisheries data of more than 180 commercial and non-commercial marine benthic species and its relation to the important bio-ecological and non-bio ecological parameters including temperature, salinity, pH, nitrite, nitrate, phytoplankton community and zooplankton community, etc. This project has been implemented with the main objectives of achieving sustainable harvesting and reviewing the trends of the demographic changes of the studied species. The results of this project can illustrate the critical points and conditions associated with the status of demersal fish stocks and thus can lead to the management decisions that are necessary to reduce the fishing effort or the pressure of overfishing. The socioeconomic recommendation of this project is to raise awareness to prevent the destruction of stocks and to contribute to sustainable and responsible fishing, so that a significant number of traditional and industrial fishermen who are active in the fisheries of benthic organisms can harvest these resources in a long-term and controlled manner.
