One of the most important sea cucumber species of the Persian Gulf isHolothuria scabrawith high economic and trade values and uses in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and even food, especially in the southeastern Asian countries.

Hence, it is no wonder that the species has come under high threat from different sources which has eventually put the animal in the endangered list of the IUCN.

As the species is found in the Persian Gulf and regarding the long studies of the experts of the Iran Fisheries Research Institute and its affiliated body, namely Persian Gulf Mollusks Research station in Bandar-Lengeh, attempts were made to artificially reproduce and culture this organism. This was successful, thanks to the knowledge and experience gained by the experts of the bodies who announced the feasibility of the project and offered the know-how of the method.
